Riverdale Church | Community Connection

Sacred spaces are a place for community members to unite in a common purpose; connect with one another; and share ideas, vision, and faith. Renovated during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Riverdale Church turned an unusual situation into an opportunity for the parishioners to do just that.

Renovations to the daycare, children’s ministry areas, classrooms, and offices kicked off the first phase of the church’s renovations. Church leaders sought to provide fully-functional and flexible environments with a refreshed aesthetic. Age group ministry rooms are easily delineated by youthful, color-themed finishes, while shared spaces integrate these color themes into a unifying array. Furniture selections from Smith-System, Sit-On-It, Allermuir, AIS, Demco, and Jonti-craft support these themes with fun accents and patterns. Phase two then included a new entrance and café space designed to allow for flexibility based on various activities.

The most atypical element of this project was the installation. Parishioners gathered as delivery trucks arrived and took on the responsibility of unboxing, inspecting, and placing all the furniture. The active participation in the renovation of their own project was a way for their community to unite and start fresh.
